ACE Exams FAQs

This certification appears to be like existing certifications – what does ACE provide that the CFCE or EnCe does not?

While the structure of the certification is similar to other industry standard certifications, the content and completion requirements are relative to the AccessData tools being used in the field. The concept of a “knowledge-based assessment” (KBA) combined with a “practical-based assessment” (PBA) has become a recognized standard for legal defensibility when candidates have completed certifications and been required to substantiate them.

Why do I have to complete the AccessData BootCamp and Windows Forensics courses prior to attempting the ACE process?

The current requirements of completing these two courses after January 1, 2004 exist for the candidate’s benefit. Certification information cannot be assessed against information not presented in recognized, formalized training. Because FTK, PRTK, FTK Imager and Registry Viewer differ in their interface and functionality from other software and procedures, candidates not having attended AccessData specific courses learning proper use of the tools would not be fully prepared to complete the certification. ACE is primarily “tool-centric”, not forensic knowledge-base centric. There are several certifications available to test file system knowledge, artifact knowledge, etc. (CFCE, EnCe) – This certification is about the functionality of the tools that wouldn’t be obtained without AccessData training.

How long do I have to complete the certification?

The current version of ACE is completed in one day. The Knowledge Based and Practical Based portions have been combined into a one day proctored format.

What is the ACE Prep Course?

This course allows a candidate not having recently attended training or not having utilized the tools on a regular basis to re-familiarize themselves with basic AccessData tool concepts and implementation. Intensely hands-on based, the one day course will explore principles that may be encountered during the ACE process. Watch the AccessData website training area for an ACE Prep Course at a conference or city near you.

What is the cost to begin the ACE process?

The current ACE fee is $395.00. AccessData recognizes the need for credentials associated with tools being used. While ACE is designed around multiple tools and in conjunction with the end-user’s resources and needs in mind, this minimal cost allows the most convenient model for delivery. Other pricing bundle options can be viewed on the pricing page.

Will ACE be available in my country?

The ACE exam will be administered in various international locations. The exam is only available in the English language at this time. Localization of the exam to other languages may occur at a later date.

Why does my subscription have to be current to pursue the certification?

The technology for certification will be built into the 1.60+ version(s) of FTK. This version (or greater) will be needed to complete the practical based assessment portion of the certification.
